DE PROFUNDIS: Writing For Second Album 'Nearly Complete'
March 3, 2009London, U.K.-based progressive doom metal band DE PROFUNDIS has issued the following update:
"Writing for our second album is nearly complete. The album will have seven songs with combined length of more than an hour. Our new drummer, Nick Tingle, has made a huge difference to our sound — those familiar with our first album will be blown away by how much richer the new compositions are! [We] think that in many ways this will be a much more ambitious, extreme, progressive, textured and powerful work. DE PROFUNDIS will be entering studio to record the new album in June 2009.
"On the live front, we will be playing a few shows around the UK in March before locking ourselves in rehearsal studios ahead of recording! We will be playing in Manchester (March 15) and London (March 21) with two more dates to be confirmed (March 13) and (March 14). Our management has entered talks with several European summer festivals and [we] can confirm that will be performing at Romania's Rock City Open Air festival in August."
DE PROFUNDIS supported IRON MAIDEN at the Rock In India festival, which was held on February 15 at the Palace Grounds in Bangalore, India. "Playing in front of 20,000 people was a blast!" teh band writes. "There were some technical problems onstage but I guess that's live music for you... We got a really good crowd reaction with some insane mosh pits and crowd surfing. Weird and wonderful feeling to see the crowd go so mad to our music! We met lots of crazy metal fans and we can't wait to come back for a full tour of the country in 2009."
DE PROFUNDIS last fall posted demo versions of two news tracks — "Ablaze In Autumn's Fire" and "Cease To Be" — on the band's MySpace page.
DE PROFUNDIS's debut album, "Beyond Redemption", was self-released on August 21, 2007. The CD was recorded and mixed by Steve Watkins at Warehouse Studios, Oxford and was mastered by Tim Turan, who has worked with such artists as OPETH, EMPEROR, DIMMU BORGIR and AT THE GATES.
While maintaining the traditional crushing and eternally despairing sound of doom metal, DE PROFUNDIS also has many genre-defying and unique touches to its sound, such as jazz-funk slap bass, black metal blast-beats and a fully stereo guitar attack with technical guitar solos. DE PROFUNDIS also boasts an original logo by none other than the black metal legend Christophe Szpajdel.
